Chengresi Brocade Thangka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting style specific to Avalokiteshvara (or Chenrezig/Chengresi); Thangka originates from Tibet and is commonly found in the Himalayas.
Avalokiteshvara is widely venerated in Tibetan Buddhism as an icon of compassion. Thangkas depicting this deity usually feature multiple arms and eyes, symbolizing the deity's capacity to perceive and aid all sentient beings. A brocade covering further adorns these thangkas, in the form of a detailed silk fabric background or border, which elevates the painting's aesthetic appeal.
Chengresi Brocade Thangkas are skillfully crafted by Tibetan artisans with traditional methods and components. Paintings of Avalokiteshvara are painted onto a fabric such as cotton or silk, and then mounted on a brocade fabric, which is often patterned and designed beautifully.
