He is one of the three Long Life Buddhas along with White Tara and Namgyalma (Ushnishavijaya), they embody the enlightened qualities of Wisdom and Compassion. As Bodhisattvas of Compassion they are often invoked to protect from premature death - called upon in times of illness as a remover of obstacles to aid our longevity and spiritual ascent.
