Green Tara Thangka Art
Description
A thangka is a Tibetan painting with spiritual power; used as a visual companion to help deepen one's meditation practice. Symbolically rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, thangkas grace the walls of many monasteries and homes, acting as a reminder of sacredness.
Green Tara is thought to have originated from a single tear that the Avalokiteshvara shed while witness to the suffering of the world. The tear created a figure, peaceful and white on the left, and fierce and green on the right. In artwork, she is depicted with her right leg extended, conveying her willingness to aid those in distress, and her left leg folded in contemplation, suggesting the connection between wisdom and art. Additionally, her left hand holds a blue lotus, representing purity and power, and her right hand is held out in a gesture of bestowing a boon.
In this Thangka painting of Green Tara , the artist has focus on the deity keeping the background clear with calming color combination. The artist skillfully uses vibrant colors and intricate details to bring the deity to life, showcasing the richness and depth of Tibetan thangka art.
