Description

This particular Thangka painting features the Wheel of Life in a refined, brocaded frame. Referred to as the Bhavacakra, the Wheel of Life is an iconic image that embodies the Buddhist belief of the cycle of existence.

The Wheel of Life Thangka typically features a large wheel with many concentric circles, with each circle adorned with various complex motifs. Commonly, a menacing figure holds the wheel in its grasp, representing impermanence and the inevitability of death. Surrounding the central hub are sections depicting the Six Realms, which comprise the divine, semi-divine, human, animal, hungry ghost, and hell realms.

The artwork depicts numerous beings in each realm going through life's joys and struggles, illustrating birth, aging, illness, death and rebirth. This silk brocade border with captivating motifs and designs lends an air of sophistication and grandeur to the Wheel of Life Thangka, making it a compelling and timeless piece which conveys the Buddhist concept of life.
