The thangka painting is set in a golden background which symbolizes the infinite space of the universe. In the center of the painting there is a tall flowering tree with four branches, each branch holding one of the four animals. The bird is perched on the top left branch symbolizing beauty and grace as well as the air element. The rabbit is depicted sitting on the next branch to the right representing gentleness, humility, and the earth element. On the right-hand side of the tree, a monkey is climbing up the branch symbolizing intelligence, creativity, and the water element. Finally, at the bottom left of the painting, there is an elephant standing on the branch representing strength, stability, and the fire element. Each animal holds the tail of the animal above it with its trunk, creating a beautiful and harmonious chain. The animals' interdependence represents the principle of harmony and reminds us of the importance of living in peace and cooperation with others.
