Description
A traditional Tibetan Buddhist painting, the White Tara thangka portrays White Tara as its main subject. Regarded highly in Vajrayana Buddhism, White Tara is also known as Sita Tara or Sitatara and stands for compassion, healing, and extended life.
White Tara is displayed in a seated position on a lotus throne in the thangka, with her right leg extended and her left foot tucked in. Her right hand is in the gesture of granting boons to her devotees (varada mudra), while her left hand is in a pose of protection (abhaya mudra). White Tara often has an serene expression and a youthful appearance. She is exquisitely adorned with a variety of jewels and silks, demonstrating her enlightened qualities.
