Description

Guru Rinpoche, more commonly known as Padmasambhava, is highly revered in Tibetan Buddhism. He is deemed the "Second Buddha" for his role in introducing Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. Guru Rinpoche is often symbolized in traditional Tibetan Buddhist paintings, known as thangkas.

A brocade thangka is a type of thangka made with a luxuriously ornate woven fabric, usually containing gold or silver threads. Brocade adds visual interest to the painting - usually done on canvas or silk - making the thangka visually striking Thangkas featuring Guru Rinpoche usually depict him in a central position. He is depicted wearing robes and a lotus hat. His right hand holds a vajra (thunderbolt) and his left hand holds a skull cup. Guru Rinpoche is known for his mystical powers, compassionate nature, and ability to tame demons and obstacles.

This thangka is not only considered artistic masterpieces but also sacred objects of devotion. They are commonly used in temples, monasteries, and personal meditation spaces as focal points for contemplation and spiritual practice. Thangkas can also serve as a source of inspiration and a reminder of the teachings and blessings of Guru Rinpoche.
