This is an original Chengresi Thangka Painting, handcrafted by a skilled artisan from Nepal. A thangka serves as a traditional Tibetan Buddhist painting on either cotton or silk, often depicting a sacred figure or mandala related to Buddhist doctrine. These detailed and ornate artworks are typically used for meditation or religious instruction, functioning as visual depictions of spiritual principles and teachings.
Chengresi is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as a compassionate bodhisattva. Our painting accurately portrays this figure, evoking feelings of solace and guardianship. Chengresi is depicted with a white halo signifying his purity and benevolence. He is usually depicted with four hands, each clutching an item such as a crystal mala in the upper right (representing enlightenment), a lotus flower in the left (to signify chastity), a gesture of giving in the lower right (symbolizing compassion) and a wish-granting gem in the lower left (alluding to aspirations).
