Description
Thangkas are a Tibetan form of artwork that feature prominently in meditation and act as a visual aid for practitioners to guide their mental exercises. These paintings are highly respected and can often be found hung above altars in Tibetan homes and monasteries.
Guru Padmasambhava Thangka Painting depicts the revered second Buddha, Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche. His expression is wrathful or semi-wrathful and he wears a lotus hat, symbol of his mastery over samsara. He holds a vajra (thunderbolt), skull cup, and khatvanga (ritual staff). The vajra symbolizes his indestructible nature and cutting of ignorance; the skull cup, mastery over ego and transformation of negative emotions; and the khatvanga, spiritual accomplishment and wisdom. He is seen as a teacher, protector, and guide to help practitioners with obstacles on the spiritual path.
