Description
Amitayus Buddha, also known as Amitabha Buddha, is a key figure in Mahayana Buddhism, with particular importance to the Pure Land school. A thangka depicting Amitayus Buddha symbolizes the Buddha of Eternal Life and Radiant Light, the ruler of the Sukhavati or Western Paradise.
Amitayus is represented in a contemplative pose, seated atop a lotus pedestal. His body is said to be golden and is draped in the traditional garb of a monk. He holds a vase of the famed elixir of long life and wisdom, imparting its blessings of longevity and freedom upon those who honor him and chant his mantra.
