Description
This Handpainted Tibetan Buddhist Thangka painting depicts Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, who is revered as the bodhisattva of compassion. As the embodiment of compassion for all Buddhas, Chenrezig holds a significant place in Tibetan Buddhism as one of the most venerated deities.
Symbolism in Chenrezig Thangka:
- Four Arms : Represent the four immeasurables: loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity.
- Mala (Rosary) : Symbolizes the cycle of life and the continuous repetition of the mantra. Lotus Flower : Represents purity and enlightenment arising from the mud of existence.
- Eyes : His compassionate gaze, sometimes depicted with a third eye, signifies his ability to see and respond to the suffering of all beings.
- Meditation Aid : Practitioners use Thangkas to focus their meditation on the qualities and attributes of the depicted deity.
