Lokeshwor Thangka, also known as Avalokiteshvara Thangka, is a style of thangka painting that displays a beloved Bodhisattva from Mahayana Buddhism - Avalokiteshvara, who signifies compassion.
Avalokiteshvara is typically depicted with multiple arms and heads, symbolizing the ability to appear in multiple forms in order to assist others in their spiritual quest. Commonly seen in representations is the lotus flower, a set of mala (prayer beads), and occasionally a wish-granting gem. Also present in a thangka could be other deities, symbols, and detailed backdrops expressing spiritual teachings and Avalokiteshvara's compassionate nature.
