Description
Shakyamuni Buddha Thangkas are traditional Tibetan Buddhist artworks with Siddhartha Gautama, famously known as Gautama Buddha, as the focal point. He is the founder of Buddhism and is esteemed as the "Enlightened One" who gained wisdom beneath the Bodhi tree.
In Shakyamuni Buddha thangkas, Siddhartha Gautama is usually displayed in the meditative "Bhumisparsha mudra" posture, right hand pointing down, left hand in lap. This gesture shows the instant he realized enlightenment, asking the earth to bear witness. His serene and tranquil face reflects his inner peace. He wears monastic robes and is distinguished by the "urna" (eyebrow curl) and the "ushnisha" (cranial bump), signifying his awakened qualities.
