The Dancing Skeleton Thangka is a stunning work of art that depicts two skeletal figures dancing on a conch shell and lotus. Both skeletons wear crowns adorned with white dry skulls, golden tiaras and silk scarves while their entire bodies are enveloped in flames. One skeleton has raised its right leg while the other has raised its left leg and both have crossed their legs in a dancing pose. This beautiful thangka is rich in symbolism representing both the destructive forces of killing and anger as well as the primordial darkness that underlies all existence. The colors used in the thangka are also significant with the golden and grey hues representing knowledge, purity, enlightenment, freedom and happiness.
