Description
Thangka is a type of Tibetan painting traditionally used to support meditation practices. The intricate imagery depicted in these paintings serves as a visual aid, guiding practitioners in their elaborate visualizations during Tibetan Buddhist practices. Thangkas hold deep reverence in Tibetan homes and monasteries, often being placed above shrines as sacred objects.
Monju Bosatsu, also known as Manjushri, is an integral part of Mahayana scriptures such as the Prajnaparamita sutras (Perfection of Wisdom sutras), Lotus Sutra, and Avatamsaka Sutra. He is credited for giving profound insight that aids many in achieving Enlightenment. Within Mahayana Buddhism, Manjushri is acknowledged as the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, whereas in Vajrayana Buddhism, he is seen as a fully enlightened Buddha. This duality is not contradicting, but rather displays a progression - the Bodhisattva path resulting in Buddha Enlightenment. Manjushri's capacity to assist in achieving Enlightenment makes him a crucial figure in Buddhism, providing wisdom and understanding that can have a profound impact on those in need.
