Thangka artwork is an ancient Tibetan tradition created to enhance meditation. This particular painting of Rahula is widely used for guided Tibetan Buddhist practices. They are often hung in homes, monasteries and shrines, venerated as a sacred object.

The terrifying Nyingma protector deity Rahula is wrathful, with nine heads, and a huge face on its belly. The image of this Buddhist guardian is probably a Tibetan design. As a guardian of the "revealed treasure teachings (Terma)," Rahula rose to prominence in the early traditions of Tibetan Buddhism (Nyingma). His bottom body is a coiled snake spirit in Buddhist representations, while his upper body has four limbs, nine heads, and a thousand eyes. One sizable angry face can be seen in the center of the stomach. The belly, or stomach, has a face.
